L'animal a l'esquena is setting up a new programme for guest residents. This aims to give more all-round support, providing guests with a fixed working space throughout 2013 and the chance to share in artistic dialogue and the creative process.
Throughout 2013, Xavier Bobés' company Playground has a fixed space to work in at Mas Espolla and, from 25th November to 14th December, will also have the studio and its resources at its disposal to finish off the work done in workshops during the year.
Playground will continue its research into the symbolic content of objects, through the research and creation project begun in 2012 and developed mainly in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. The creation process will continue in a single space/workshop: Mas Espolla. The main aim of this creation period is to begin staging material for the next piece, to be premiered in 2014.
During long periods of research and creation, the company needs an intimate space in which to work out different ideas for objects and installations. From a plastic concept to words, movements, thoughts. In this way, the doors are opened to the creative process so as to share with the audience the work they have been doing all year.
The project Monsters/Object of an Object is supported by: CAET – Centro de Artes Escénicas de Terrassa (Terrassa Centre for Performance Arts)/Festival TNT, Department of Culture – OSIC of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Iberescena 2012, L'animal a l'esqena, L'antiga Casa Ballesté and the theatre companies Banfield Teatro Ensamble from Buenos Aires, Teatro La Rendija from Mérida and Grupo Sobreventa from Sao Paulo.
Xavier Bobés, an actor and stage manipulator/creator, describes himself as self-taught. He loves the poetry of objects and has been researching into all kinds of everyday things for over ten years. He works with other artists, both as a performer and as a manipulator. He seeks the symbolic/theatrical content of objects and anything apparently banal. He does this through creation, rehearsal and teaching. In 2003, he set up the company Playground, which he also describes as choreography, a way of working with and investigating the world of everyday objects, giving them new meanings in surprising contexts that belong in an imaginary world. Creation processes are centred around the relationship between different artistic disciplines on stage: the plastic arts, music and performance all at the service of the poetic symbolism of objects. Research and reflection, creation and exhibition, training and documentation are the three core activities of the company.

During its time at L'animal a l'esquena the company has produced the pieces A Taula! (To the Table!, April 2009) and Insomni (Insomnia, July and October 2011). It also took part in Jordi Gali's laboratory Entre cielo y tierra (Between Earth and Sky), as part of the programme of L'animal Tardor, 2011.
