During their residency at L'animal a l'esquena, Amaranta Velarde, the choreographer and performer of the project, and Diana Gadish, her collaborator and co-performer, will continue their research to complete the final phase of the dance piece Hacia una estética de la buena voluntad/Towards an Aesthetic of Good Will, to be premiered as part of the Secció Irregular (experimental section) at the Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona) on 25th April, 2014.
The starting point for the project is the prologue of Michel Houellebecq's Elementary Particles, in which a new human species has succeeded in overcoming its present suffering by finding a short cut, through science, to a profound transformation verging on enlightenment.
The piece explores a choreographic vocabulary that allows for the emergence and investigation of psychosomatic states alluding to mystic concepts such as surrender, the void and the dissolution of the sense of individuality. It questions the clichés, aesthetics and manipulations that arise around these to test whether they are reality or paradox, and does this in the context of performance.
