This dance piece, based on the research project MUY EXPERIMENTAL /VERY EXPERIMENTAL, is an exercise in choreography for two performers that will move between the body, the voice and words using parameters tried out over the past year. The choreography is drawn down into itself, casting aside formal obligations and rules of meaning, insisting on the affirmation of its pure existence.
an in-between being an in-between state
between definition and meaning
An attempt to distance ourselves from the former to go deeper into the latter
In this in-between place we go in search of intermediate spaces between abstraction and narration, seeking material that has narrative power and yet escapes the creation of a specific meaning or linear message, that instead inhabits the chaos of nonsense.
This process is an attempt to accept loss, looking for an alternative way to offer meaning through unusual channels of action such as organisation, perception and sensation. The performance has a nomad quality, reinventing itself in each new location, and is affected by the space itself as well as the institution supporting it. We play with the lack of any conceptual foundation, generating it from the chaos of intermediate spaces.
Together with Oihana Altube, I would like to construct an indeterminate fiction in which associations of meaning are set off and simultaneously disappear and/or are transformed. this in-between place radiates a sense of wishing to be, while, by its very nature, it makes no sense.
- Is there a space between perception and representation?
- What space is there between thought and word?
- And between thought and action?
- What happens inside a body and inside its exterior?
- How do internal processes show on the outside and how does the outside influence
the inside?
- The palpable reality of matter – the dancing body and its tactile surroundings – combines with the immaterial reality of the imagination and is this how we navigate between physical and imaginary reality?
