From 20th to 26th September there will be a technical residency for the project Monstres/Monsters by Xavi Bobés, with the whole artistic team present to prepare for the premiere of the piece at the 2014 Festival TNT (Terrassa Noves Tendèncias/Terrassa New Trends) and its later performance at the Festival Temporada Alta 2014. During this intensive period, Playground will finish the process of creation and production they have carried out during their year as resident guest company at L'animal a l'esquena.
Monstres, objeto de un objeto/Monsters, Object of an Object, is a theatre of objects piece. The drama is based on the following subjects of study: hypnotism and magic, routine and skill, will and ambition. Starting with this mixture, power grows gradually, slowly but tirelessly, in search of perfection, the raw beauty of a superman. And as the mission turns the being into a monster, the echo of his acts also changes the view of those witnessing the experiment, creating a complicity in which everyone shares, spectators and manipulator.
Performance piece based on the manipulation of objects and the concept of monstrosity.
Object of an object: the object of study is the individual, his extremities, decisions, his actions and their consequences.
Monsters: Monsters reflects on the stage on which human nature is enacted, everything that transcends individual experience and remains throughout history, like a final, faceless monster.
This project is based on two subjects of study in the world of object manipulation:
1)Investigation of the expressivity of the hands and arms as a key element in the art of manipulation. The body as just another object, its lifeless appearance, close to death.
2)Research into new materials, mostly from the world of sewing.
The piece Monstruos, Objeto de objecto/Monsters, Object of an Object is a co-production by Playground, Festival TNT/CAET – Centre d'Arts Escèniques de Terrassa and Festival MIMA de Mirepoix; with the support of L'animal a l'esquena, Teatre Principal de Olot, Centre d'Arts Escèniques Can Gassol de Mataró, Sala La Planeta de Girona, Departament de Cultura-OSIC/Generalitat de Catalunya, Institut Ramon Llull, Ayuda Iberescena 2012/INAEM-Ministerio de Cultura, l'Antiga Casa Ballesté and the theatre company La Rendija from Mérida, Mexico.
