De acelgas y aceras (Plants and Pavements – literally “Swiss Chards and Pavements”) is a research project that has been developed in stages, beginning in 2004; a project that has already been welcomed as part of the programme of residencies at L’animal a l’esquena. Under the title Ji Gou (Plants and Pavements), it was made in collaboration with Janet Novás, a Galician performer and creator based in Madrid. It has received support from Mal Pelo and the research and creation grants programme of the Generalitat de Catalunya, among others.
Based on the results so far, Neus Villà wants to continue the work, extending it to other collaborators so as further to investigate and consolidate the possibilities for coexistance and receptivity in a given performance space, where the challenge and aim is constant negotiation, both on and off stage, between creators and their artistic languages. Through improvisation and physical work, the aim is to look into breaking expectations of a mise-en-scene, to explore the durability and perserverence of the image both of the performance space and the presences inhabiting it.
For 2015, Neus Villà’s collaborators on the project will include Leo Castro.
