The subject of femaleness is not a new one in the 20 years or more of Sol Picó’s career. But this time the role of women in global society takes centre stage in her thoughts. For this, she has asked dancers from many different places to try to talk about female identity around the world. She brings together Shantala Shivalingappa, a traditional Indian dancer, the expressive Japanese butoh of Minako Seki and the African fusion dance of Julie Dossavi. The result is a powerful cocktail treading a line between tradition and modernity, denunciation and lyricism.
Sol Picó reflects on women’s condition, enriching her views with those of women from all over the world. Starting out from the different disciplines practised by the performers she collaborates with, and from the origins and background of each of them, she draws a portrait of the contemporary woman. These performers, some of whom have had to break with the norms of their native cultures, have different styles, techniques and languages, unknown even to their companions, but they all ask themselves the same questions and seek the same answers.

Compañía Sol Picó is a professional dance company set up in 1994 by the dancer and choreographer Sol Picó. Her work can be defined as a mingling of genres. Her mature technique combines strength, precision and dynamism, complementing the organic nature of her creations, that are always enlivened by humour.
