Sweet Suite is a performance trilogy by Pere Faura, made up of three choreographic suites revolving around the relationship between leisure and occupation, work and free time, pleasure and duty.
Sweet Fever, Sweet Tyranny and Sweet Precarity are three independent performance pieces that can be presented either individually or as part of a trilogy. The three parts are based on iconic choreographies from musical films of the seventies and eighties.
During this residency at L’animal a l’esquena, Pere will be working on Sweet Precarity, an analogy between dance as evasion and dance as a profession. Based on choreography from films of the disco era (70s and 80s), the piece draws an analogy between dance as ecstasy and escape and dance as work and profession, within a palindromic structure that functions as a distorting mirror, blowing up and twisting this relationship to make us think about our own work and existential situation.
Copying, adapting or destroying the choreographies of John Travolta or Patrick Swayze, the piece transcends the cliche they represent and presents hard won reflections on the relationship between work and play, both specifically in the world of dance and in the working world in general.
This group piece is at once tacky and rebellious, somewhere between disco and dance studio, party and work, individual freedom and collective obligation.
