Ji Gou: Preludio y fuga en La Menor (Ji Gou: Prelude and Fugue in La Minor) is a landscape and a presence.
It is a journey of transformation.
A fugue.
It is duality, the co-existence of two poles.
It is light, solitude and success.
Abandonment and permanence.
Ji Gou is about the will, about our own gaze, identity and its limits.
You will never be first of all, but nor will you be the last… Perhaps you only enjoy the extasy of a moth at the moment before it catches fire in the flame.
Theory of Ambition, Hérault de Séchelles.
This project was born out of a desire to work with physicality and musicality, with ephemeral space and lighting, and also to write a composition for performance that drew on physical language and the relationship with objects, with the aim of persevering in the image that was built.
Experimentation, destruction of personal identity, lines of flight bring us to the edge of the unknown. We have to develop great prudence, be nomads without ending up as exiles. We have to learn to know ourselves, experiment but find what suits us. And all this without dying in the attempt.
No one knows what a body can do is the line by Spinoza that Dleuze repeats in his writings. If a body does not define itself by belonging to a species, but by the affection it is capable of, its power, the movable borders of its territory, then we cannot know what a body may be capable of before experiencing it.
Our only aim must be preparation for experiment. And this preparation consists in not imitating, not judging, not interpreting things using the general categories of what is good or bad; it’s a question of not reducing experience to what is given to us socially as already known.
Desire according to Deleuze
(By Maite Larrauri. Ed Tándem, Valencia, 2000)
