( Mónica García, Ana Vallés )
This project is a collaboration between actress-director Ana Vallés and dancer-choreographer Mónica García. They met in Madrid in 2000, where they were both taking part in the creation process for Fine Romance by Carmen Werner (Provisional Danza). Since 2007, Mónica has worked regularly on pieces for the company Matarile Teatro, directed by Ana Vallés.
During the residency at L’animal a l’esquena they will begin working towards a duet to be performed in 2018, in collaboration with Baltasar Patiño.
“How shall we sing?... How shall we sing?”
We enter into this process with the aim of finding working tools and ways of doing things, based on our previous collaborations. Concepts such as that of the protagonist, or the role of the spectator, which we have already looked at, lead us to consider here the figure of the agonist: one who empowers the activity of another (as opposed to the antagonist, who blocks it). Our watchwords will be close observation, close-ups and always the connection with our surroundings.
Also a quote from Slavoj Zizek:
“Fantasy is not the opposite of reality. Reality is always constructed ideologically and fantasy is the basic structure of meaning that allows it to be maintained as reality… Reality is, therefore, what happens when we lose our sense of reality.”
And a question: So do we need to “break through fantasy”, break that spell, and recognise that the fantasy sustaining the reality of our socio-political system is false?
Start by leaving the door open.
