RITMO (RÉSEAU INTERNATIONAL DE THÉÂTRE DE MARIONNETTE ET OBJET)
EXCHANGE OF KNOWLEDGE, CREATION AND PROMOTION
The Ritmo network was founded in Dunkirk in 2017 by the Théâtre la Licorne and now includes six artistic organizations and four promotional organizations in five countries. The members of this project want to build an international network around the theatre of puppets and objects, with the aim of discovering new artistic practices and aesthetics and finding new ways to look at the relationship with the audience.
The first subject chosen by all members of the Nomad Academy is biography.
What is a biography?
How do you (re)construct a person’s life?
Do you create, invent biographies of fictional characters or seek inspiration in the lives of people who really existed (whether or not they are well known)?
We always concentrate more on what we lack than on what we still have, or on what we don’t know, a “missing image”.
Using the various sources that usually serve as material for biographies: photos, note-books, memories, objects, eye-witness reports, we share our experiences and look for lost images….
The research laboratories with artists taking part in the network (French, Catalan, Belgian, Portuguese, Bosnian) are opportunities to discuss our working methods, the focus of our biographies and the exchange of culture and history, on a small or large scale: Odradek in France, L’animal a l’esquena in Catalonia, Mostar in Bosnia Herzegovina and La Licorne-Dunquerque in France. To raise the profile of the work, first offered as “small shapes” ambling about, we propose a huge project: to work together to create several shows that will be enriched by the mingled skills of each and every contributor.
