Garbiñe Ortega
Whether in Spain or abroad, there are hardly any venues or publications dedicated exclusively to film curation. One research project by the curator and editor Garbiñe Ortega is precisely to create spaces for reflection, the exchange of ideas and education about the practice of curation in different spaces and formats.
The first meeting was held at Tate Modern in London under the title Museum of Clouds (2018), developed by Andrea Lissoni, Carly Whitefield and Garbiñe Ortega, where a group of international curators shared their work and ways of accompanying a specific group of film makers who were also meeting that weekend in London. This project continued, with other agents, at Punto de Vista (2019), the Cinematek in Brussels (2019) and finally the Centro Cultural Montehermoso (2019).
This residency at L’animal, a few days after the latest gathering at their sister centre Azala in the Basque Country, will give shape to a new editorial project on commissioning film. This publication will collect conversations from all the above-mentioned meetings over the years, between curators from Spain and abroad. It will provide, at last, a collection of voices reflecting on this constellation of practices.
