ES PECADO QUE UNA VERGEN RÍA CON DESCARO/IT’S A SIN FOR A VIRGIN TO HAVE A BRAZEN LAUGH is a piece inspired by the walled women, also known as recluses and/or anchoresses. The anchoresses were part of a political movement of female liberation during the Low Middle Ages in Europe and were women who decided to withdraw from the outside world, walled up in small cells in the urban centres of the time. These cells provide a whole world of images that feed into the drama of this piece: the image of a room that is open and closed at the same time. The stage is transformed into a cell in which the body of the performer is offered as an act of presence and resistance.
I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name I don’t want to keep making excuses for myself / Excuse me / Excuse me / I’ve lost my name / I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name / I don’t have a name / I put mine next to yours / I’ve lost my name / I don’t have a name / I’m trying not to be anything / I left my name / Don’t give me a name / Please.
