DesembrEnDansa (Dance December) is a season dedicated to performance arts related to the body and movement, set up in 2016 with the aim of putting Celrà at the epicentre of cutting edge dance. It offers a broad range of shows, training and creation around dance and movement, lasting three days, which hopes to highlight the town’s long history of both training and creative projects since the 1990s.
The season, which involves various institutions in the town related to dance, is held every December. Every year we work to bring this discipline to the whole population, young and old.
The aim is to decentralise dance from large urban centres, such as Barcelona or Gerona, spreading this artistic language throughout the land.
Celrà’s long association with this discipline has made it a beacon for contemporary dance, especially due to the presence of la Escuela de Municipal de Danza (Municipal Dance School) and the creation centre L’animal a l’esquena.
This is a season that emphasises the value of dance as an artistic expression using the movement of the body as a universal language. The programme, always aimed at the general public, is noted for its quality and professionalism, with proposals that focus on the creative process, artistic training, and the performance of dance pieces by local artists. The fact that most of the programme takes place in the open air helps it reach the widest possible audience.
DesembreEnDansa takes place in various locations in the town of Celrà and is organised by the Área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento, the Teatro L'Ateneu, the Escuela Municipal de Danza de Celrà and L’animal a l’esquena.
