Úrsula López
Born in Montilla (Córdoba). She began her training at a very young age, graduating in both Spanish and classical dance, and moved to Seville to continue studying flamenco under great maestros such as Manolete and Manolo Marín. It was the latter who gave her the chance to launch her professional career in the opera Carmen, under the direction of Carlos Saura.
In 1996 she joined the Compañía Andaluza de Danza and during the following eight years took part as a soloist in all the company’s shows, touring major festivals and theatres all over the world. She has worked on pieces by Javier Latorre, José Antonio Ruíz, Eva Yerbabuena, Joaquín Grilo, Andrés Marín, Dorantes and Javier Ruibal, among others. She set up her own company and premiered her first piece Abriendo Camino (Clearing a Path) (Festival de Flamenco de Jerez, 2007). In 2012 she premiered a new production, La otra piel (The Other Skin) at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. She combines performance with teaching work, giving classes all over the world as well as at her own academy in Seville, the flamencodanza studio, to pass on the legacy of the great maestros.
She has recently performed in JRT, about the painter and flamenco artist Julio Romero de Torres, directed by Pedro G. Romero, with Tamara López and Leonor Leal.
