 CONSTRUCCIÓN VERTICAL
(Creation Residence )

L'animal a l'esquena (Celrà)
From 20/03/2012 to 25/03/2012

Joaquin Jara

ico The one week residence at L'animal a l'esquena will be a first approach to its natural environment in order to set the physical and conceptual basis for the sculptural intervention Vertical construction-L'animal a l'esquena.

Vertical construction is a series included in the interventions in natural environments project, which I have been developing since 2004. The project involves creating human sculptures using natural materials which can be eroded over time. Natural transformation cycles conclude the piece, which becomes an anthropomorphic portrait of the location in which it has been placed by acquiring the texture and chromatic spectrum of its environment. At the final stage, the piece becomes totally integrated with the environment, and thus disappears.

Starting with the observation of the various locations at L'animal, I will select the most representative environments to install my work and experiment with "residence" and "presence"; actively interacting with the environment using a cast to generate the body volume and its mark on the location; creating a "negative" of the body on the location or of the location on the body. Using these actions I will create interventions that will stay in the landscape as remains or results of these experiences.

Once the project is concluded, I will explain the creative process to the audience; including a round-table session to share the techniques used during the week of residence. Finally, I will show my interventions to the audience in order to listen to their feedback and document it, to be able to comprehend their individual experiences, interpretations and thoughts.

On this stage of the process, the round-table participants' feedback will be captured to be used as the conceptual basis for the Vertical construction-Lanimal a l'esquena intervention (during the second phase of the process), which will involve the construction of the portrait L'animal a l'esquena.
