Commerce
( Nik Haffner, Thomas McManus )

ico Project residentially carried out by the interdisciplinary group Commerce, with two of its members: Nik Haffner and Thomas McManus (ex-dancers of the 'Frankfurt Ballet' of William Forsythe). In this new project the artists explored the various types of movements and stillness, continuity and rupture.

Commerce is a group of five artists who work together since 1999. Their shared work is based on the exploration of spatial and temporal structures in a certain situation. It is a method that questions the conventional notions of theatrical space for it is an interdisciplinary work between dance and audiovisual media. With an interdisciplinary approach they collaborate with artists from other disciplines and they present their work in the dance and representation context.

The word commerce does not only imply the compra-venta of goods and services but it also contains its original sense of an exchange of ideas and opinions: "There is an inherent conflict between commerce, information and entertainment". (Richard Serra)
