ico Do you remember the smell of your grandparents’ kitchen?

Extraños mares arden/Strange Seas on Fire is a piece of documentary theatre exploring the development of capitalism in the early decades of the 20th Century and the close relationship between the histories of the finance, mining, arms and contemporary art industries.

The piece can be shown in two formats: the Italian style Stage Version, which was first performed in October 2016, and the Meal Version. Both are designed to develop the same story from two very different angles.

In the Meal Version, the documentary story unfolds while public and performers share a simple, delicious, traditional meal; we see food as a powerful tool to trigger memory and set the imagination to work. A table, a tablecloth and memories.

The menu combines two dishes that always appeared at family gatherings of the author of the piece, a Chilean born in the mid- seventies on the coast of the Atacama Desert. The menu to be shared will consist of:

Starter:
Pisco Sour and Choripanes.
(Pisco Sour is a South American cocktail made from pisco and lemon juice. A choripan is a Creole sausage sandwich)

First course:
Cochayuyo Ceviche
(Cochayuyo is a seaweed from the Southern Pacific)

Second course:
Grilled Chilean flank and skirt steaks, grilled vegetables and assortment of salads.
(Flank and skirt are two Argentinian cuts of beef customary at Chilean barbacues)

Dessert:
Chocolate brownie.

Red wine, water and fresh fruit juices.

The show finishes when we get to the coffee.

Price for the meal, €15. Limited space, booking essential. Write to info@lanimal.org. Reservations will be made on request. Payment in advance is not necessary.
