Meritxell Colell
Has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, 2006. In 2005 she received a grant to study at the Universidad del Cine (FUC) in Buenos Aires and directed her first film, Manuscrit a la ciutat (Manuscript for the City).
She has worked as a film editor on nine feature length films shown at numerous international festivals ((Mar del Plata, IDFA, Festival de la Habana, Sheffield Film Festival …)
As a director she made her first fictional feature length film in 2018, after several shorts.
Amb el vent (With the Wind) was chosen by L’Atelier de la Cinéfondation for the Cannes Festival 2015 and had its world premiere at the 68th Berlinale. It won the silver Biznaga prize for best Zonazine film at the Festival de Málaga. Her work has been shown at over forty festivals.
Since 2007 she has combined editing, directing and writing films with teaching film studies. She is a member of the team Cinema en Curs, a project for film education run by the A Bao a Qu association (www.cinemaencurs.org), with which she has guided work on over forty short films made by young people between 11 and 18.
In 2018 she began teaching at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra on the degree course in Audiovisual Communication. She also runs workshops and seminars for the non-fiction degree at ESCAC, the postgraduate course in audiovisual editing at the IPF and the ECIB. She advised on projects for the shorts programme for the Festival Europea de Lima in 2018, on the Noka Mentoring scheme in the Basque Country and on Bolivia Lab 2019.
In 2020 she premiered Transoceaniques at the Nara Festival (Japan) and at the Chicago Film Festival, earning a special mention from the Spanish jury at the Festival de Gijón. This is a filmed correspndence between Barcelona and Buenos Aires, made with the director Lucía Vassallo. It won the Klyazev prize at Malaga Lab VIP 2019 and the DCP DELUXE prize at the third PUSH PLAY Work-in-Progress Session, as part of FICX Industry Days.
She is working on the post production of her second fictional feature length film, Duo, which won the Cannes prize at the Forum de Coproducción at the 66th San Sebastian Festival; the MalagagoestoCannes Prize and Abycine prize at Malaga Spanish WIP 2019, the Yapimlab Prize at Sofia Meetings 2018 and was selected for MIA Roma 2018, L’Alterna.
She also works with the Fundación Miró, making audiovisual pieces for their temporary exhibitions.
