Toni Cots
Actor, researcher, teacher and director in Performing Arts.
BA in Theatre Studies at the Theatre Institute of Barcelona.
Studies and practices of contemporary dance in Barcelona, London and Oslo. He explores other codified body disciplines in Asia: in India the Kalarippayattu (martial art); in Bali the Pentjak Silat (martial art) and the theatre Topeng; in Japan the Nihon Buyo (classical dance/theatre form).
Between 1975 and 1985 he is an actor and a member of the Odin Theatre (Denmark), and between 1979 and 1987 of the International School of Theatre Anthropology ISTA.
As a director and author he creates in 1984, the artistic project BASHO - contemporary performing arts -, directing and producing several performances and events in different parts of the world.

He has been artistic director of several international festivals such as 'Sant'Arcangelo dei Teatri' in Italy (1983), 'Sitges Teatre Internacional' Barcelona (1987-90), and "Ex-centrics – Waves"in Denmark (1997).

As a producer he has directed: 'Teatre Obert' in Barcelona (1989-1991); 'The European Theatre' – an international program by KIT / Kanonhallen / Kulturby 96 – Cultural Capital of Europe - (1994 -1996); The Memory Project' at Arken Museum (Denmark, 1996) and at Felix Meritis Foundation (Amsterdam, 1998).

Between 1997 and 2000 creates and directs in Copenhagen Borderland - an artistic research project based on sociocultural aspects of migration and exchange related to intercultural and urban issues.
Between 1998 and 2004 and later in 2006, he is the artistic coordinator of the project Caldera Express at La Caldera in Barcelona, with a program of artistic exchanges, residencies, presentations and international conferences.

Since 2001 he is the artistic coordinator and co-director of the Performing Arts Centre L'animal a l'esquena located in Celra, Girona. Its main objective is the research, practice and documentation of the body based performative practices and its interdisciplinary caracter. Since 2007 is the director of the MA MACAPD (MA in Contemporary Arts Practice & Dissemination), in collaboration with the University of Girona.

Since 1997, he is a member of the Editorial Board of 'Performance Research', a journal published by Routledge.
Since 2001, he is a Board member of the Foundation Interarts in Barcelona - European Observatory of Cultural Policies.
Between July 2004 and December 2007 he is a consultant of the direction Board of the new Intitute for Contemporary Arts and Culture of the Department of Culture, in the Generalitat of Catalunya (the Catalan Government)

His activities has taken place in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, France, Italy, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Hungary, Slovenia, Japan, Indonesia, India, Tunisia, Lebanon, amongst other countries.
