Part of the programme of the Festival Això al Poble NO li agradrà (The People Don’t Like That)
Gritarán las piedras/ The Stones Will Shout is an investigation into the ways in which power performs. In 2023 Urati Laboratorio began researching the stage mechanisms (visual, aesthetic, physical and verbal) that express power relations in our environment, with the aim of broaching, through artistic practice, the following question: is power natural, or an artifice?

Analysing power is complicated, since it is made of the stuff of phantoms. Power is an abstract idea, intangible; but at the same time profoundly present, infiltrated into bodies, eyes and words. Wherever we look, power emanates from all sides and infuses our everyday lives. There is power at play in the relationships revealed by glances exchanged between anonimous citizens in the street. Power appears in the most intimate corners, in the hierarchical relationships that traverse families and work-places. There even seems to be power in the apparently inoffensive games that our children enjoy in the park. But observing this presence, we ask ourselves: is there power here? Is power a reality that we inhabit and consciously accept? Or is it merely a phantasmagoria, a product that has been designed, in which we take part involuntarily?
During this residency at L’animal, we will work on phase three of the project Gritarán las piedras/The Stones Will Shout. Phase one consisted of a display in the form of a lecture performance at the Fundación Joan Brossa. Phase two took place in Chile, at a residency at the arts centres Teatro Puerto and Bio Bio, with the support of the Nave Ivanow as resident company. In phase three, we want to develop the research into an installation format.
