Sull’uscio/At the Door is the provisional title of a piece in which the young dance company Apolvere hopes to experiment with a few ideas in the early stage of research carried out between L’animal a l’esquena and the Akropolis Centre in Greece.
The artistic interest in making the piece lies in the fact that the two co-directors, who come from Italy and Spain, are currently experiencing an increase in fascist political discourse, and its normalisation, both in their home countries and in the rest of Europe. This has brought home to them the importance of making a piece that discusses collective organisation to preserve a future in which freedom of expresson and dignified living conditions are not at risk.

The residency will be centred around working on a set design, or a prootype for this, made up of three light panels that will act as small walls, creating a “zoom in” within the wider context of the stage. Within this frame, they want to carry out an investigation in movement, of scores, repetitions and unison. They are interested in these choreographic elements because they want to explore the concept of individuality within uniformity and the parallel between a society and a complex set of cogs that works with precision, consequences in motion, mutual influence and collaboration. The use of different types of media, such as composed soundscapes and samples of recorded text, will eventually be introduced to better define the shared ground on which the group operates. So as to achieve this specific sound, Apolvere wanted to invite a sound engineer to collaborate in the team. For now, this poetic world of the imagination includes texts by authors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Joan Brossa. They are greatly inspired by the power of these two poets to depict political themes as dominating individual perspectives on life, from fine points of politics and morals to practical organisation and focus. All these elements combine to make up the pillars on which Apolvere hopes to develop Sull’uscio and they believe that they can provide the spine of this first stage of research.
