Every piece of work I do begins (or continues) with the desire to work on something latent that is pushing to come out. The process is set up with a group of people in a very intuitive way, trying out many things that sometimes don’t seem to come to anything, big ideas appearing and falling away, crises following upon discoveries, until the material is there. At a certain moment, decisions are made that mould the work, we mourn what is to be left out and celebrate what remains (this is the moment when the work itself takes its own decisions and responds to its own needs, becoming somehow independent from us). When the piece is first performed the public arrive, and colleagues, and the conversation begins and we begin to understand what we have made, this living thing. The “new” creation that I want to make comes from certain concerns that still remain from my previous pieces: En la sombra de un elefante (In the Shade of an Elephant) and Retrato de un monstruo (Portrait of a Monster).

For the residency at L’animal I’d like to work on a version of a possible solo from my most recent piece En la sombra de un elefante. The starting point for this work is to use the set for that piece along with some images and lines from Retrato de un monstruo. The idea is to take a few scenes from these pieces and delve deeper into them (I have an intuition that there is something in them I’m interested in following up). In both these pieces one of the central operations was to be doing at least two things at once, seeing what came out of the friction between these two or more actions.
